You probably noticed that we assert ourselves as insurance claim consultants. Here is what we mean by that and why it matters.
If a storm hits your area and the exterior of your home is damaged in any way due to the storm, whether it’s broken windows from wind or damaged shingles from debris, you’ll need to contact your insurance provider. The Storm Damage Center advises homeowners to beware of hiring from the list of “approved contractors” provided by the insurance company. After all, you want to company that is working for you, not working to save the insurance company money. At Bird Creek Roofing, our team acts as an advocate for you. We assist in making the claim and answering any questions you may have along the way. Here is what the process should look like after the storm has passed, the damage has been done and action is prepared to be taken.
The first step is to assess the damage as a homeowner and take note of anything that looks remotely damaged. The more thorough, the better. Take pictures as proof just in case.
Step two is to begin researching contractors. Bird Creek Roofing serves the Central Texas area, including Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding areas. Whichever company you choose, make sure to do your homework. Check that they are approved by the Better Business Bureau and read through review sites to see if there is a general consensus about their quality of work and customer service. Our reviews can be found here and here.
Step three involves the contractor coming out to your property and inspecting it from top to bottom. They should also take pictures. If you have chosen to work with Bird Creek Roofing, one of our representatives will explain to you what damage was found and give you an estimate for the repairs.
The fourth step is to call the claims department of your insurance company. Be prepared to provide the images as well as the estimate from the contractor. The insurance company should then send out an insurance adjuster to do an inspection of their own. Your contractor should be present during this appointment to ensure everything matches up.
From there, the fifth step depends on whether or not your claim was approved. If denied, you are entitled to meet with three insurance adjusters. If it was approved, you will receive two different payments. One to cover the cost of materials.
The final step is up to the contractor. At Bird Creek Roofing, we would then order the materials and begin the repairs. We only receive the final payment, which was issued to you by the insurance company, once the project is complete and has passed the city inspection and your personal satisfaction test. We’re here for you before and after the storm, because we work for you, not the insurance company. Call us at (254)-541-1489 if you need help making a claim.
