Help One Now is “a catalytic tribe committed to caring for orphans & vulnerable children by empowering & resourcing high-capacity local leaders in order to transform communities & break the cycle of extreme poverty.” And how did Bird Creek Roofing, a roofing company based out of Central Texas come to be involved with a non-profit organization based in North Carolina? Excellent question!
Before Nate Navarro founded Bird Creek Roofing, he was the Founder and CEO of Austin Based non-profit “Music For The City.” It is in this role that he connected with Chris Marlow and Lamar Stockton. Chris is the CEO & Founder of Help One Now. Lamar’s role is as the International Operations Director, but he happens to live in Austin, Texas. Lamar works closely with Help One Now leaders in Haiti and Africa as they work to restore communities. In 2016, Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti and UN officials estimated that roughly 350,000 people were in need of assistance. The country wasn’t back on its feet from the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in 2010 that displaced an estimated 1.5 million people. Needless to say, Help One Now’s attention and resources were directed to the country to offer whatever relief they could.
Around this time, we were interested in expanding our mission as a company. From a service level, the mission of Bird Creek Roofing has always been to help Texas homeowners get their lives and homes back in order following a storm. On the community level, we have committed to donating three roofs a year through Habitat for Humanity. We knew we couldn’t make an international impact on our own, so when Lamar reached out to us with the idea, we jumped at the opportunity to see how we could aid his efforts on a global scale. The cost to completely replace a roof in Haiti that had been destroyed by the hurricane is $2,500 and we wrote a check for the amount on the spot.
We’re very excited to share our future plans with Help One Now. We are committed to donating a minimum of two roofs in 2017, but are hoping to reach our goal of four roofs at the cost of $10k. None of this would be happening if it weren’t for you, the reader. The Texans that support and refer Bird Creek Roofing to their friends and family make our goals to help Texas homeowners and donate to organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Help One Now possible.
