5 Signs You Might Need Roof Repairs

Birdcreek Roofing • Mar 07, 2022

At Birdcreek Roofing, our mission is to help Texas homeowners — which includes educating you on the 5 signs you might need roof repairs. Rather than break out the ladder, give us a call and we’ll conduct a free inspection to let you know what type of repairs need to be done and whether they’re covered by your insurance.

IF YOUR SHINGLE EDGES ARE CURLED OR SHINGLE TABS ARE CUPPED.

A good way to check the condition of shingles on your roof is to look at the slopes of your home that get direct sunlight. If you notice curled or cupped shingles, it could mean they are past their life expectancy. Curled or cupped shingles are extremely fragile and can be easily cracked. To prevent further damage and possible leaks, avoid walking on the roof and replace them as soon as possible.

IF YOUR GRANULES ARE MISSING.

A quick look from the ground level should also expose if there are missing or damaged shingles on the roof. Roof shingle granule loss may result from normal shingle aging, hail damage, storm damage, or even defective/low-quality shingles. Granules serve three main purposes on shingles such as UV ray protection, fire resistance, and aesthetic beauty. Missing granules can be a sign of damaged shingles.

IF YOUR SHINGLES ARE FALLING.

If you find shingles on the ground, that could be a big warning sign that there may be structural damage to your roof. High winds, improper installation, and old age are just some of the reasons your shingles could be falling. Missing shingles weaken your roof and can expose your home to further damage.

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING LEAKS.

If you are experiencing leaks throughout your home, that is also a major warning sign that you could need your roof to be replaced. Small leaks can lead to more damage to your home, such as mold, rotted framing, sheathing, destroyed insulation, or damaged ceilings. Learn more about the lifecycle of a roof leak here.

IF YOUR ROOF IS MORE THAN 20 YEARS OLD.

A typical roof will last between 20 and 25 years. Several factors can affect a roof’s lifespan such as materials, climate, and exposure to weather. Exposure to weather such as heavy storms, heavy snow/rain, and even extreme drought can all decrease the lifespan of your roof.

When inspecting your home for possible signs of needing roof repairs, keep in mind that not all signs are visible from the ground level! Our roof inspections include getting on top of your roof and checking for the signs above for you.
